This project located in Bedford, NH was initiated with a phone call from the homeowner having an in ground pool constructed in their back yard. Our task was to provide the landscaping that would surround the pool area giving a peaceful retreat for the whole family to enjoy, yet be functional. One item that needed to be overcome was a drainage issue where water runoff from the hillside and the back was leaving the existing soil soft and muddy. This was handled by using a crushed stone and pipe system in a trench at the base of the hill for its entire length. Solid panel fencing was used to conceal the mechanical area and provided noise reduction by deflecting sound upward. Matching stain was applied and gate installed for access. A modular building was brought in for use as a pool house to keep supplies and other items organized and out of the weather. A 4’ high White Cedar fence was utilized as a soft screen that gives you that sense of privacy that we all enjoy.
The existing patio at the rear of the home provided the starting point for the brick paver walkway that was laid using the same basket weave pattern that we extended into the pool area to a second patio setting. In keeping with the low maintenance request, smooth river stone was incorporated in earth tones chosen by the homeowner. Planting beds were created for a more natural appeal with use of perennials and ornamental shrubs. This landscape project encompassed many different aspects of creating an outdoor space that will be enjoyed for years to come.
