Durgin & Durgin Landscaping LLC is proud to announce that we are now Certified Salt Applicators in the State of NH.
With the pending House Bill 1676 Durgin & Durgin Landscaping LLC has taken a proactive approach to comply with the potential new law that is more likely than not going to be passed. If the law is passed it will required every Commercial Salt Applicator to be Certified or face a severe fine.
In brief HB1676 is intended to reduce Sodium Chloride (rock salt) and other winter ice melting chemicals entering our ground water. These chemicals have an adverse affect on many things including plants and trees, aquatic plants, fish, drinking wells and bodies of water to name a few.
Several states across the country have implemented such regulations with very good results. NH is gathering information and has been conducting Pilot Programs the past 10 years utilizing some of these techniques to keep our water clean.
The idea behind the certification is to train all Commercial Salt Applicators in the proper use and storage of these chemicals. This includes guide lines on application rate and calibration of equipment. All employees must be trained to understand and follow these guide lines.
More good news is that Durgin & Durgin Landscaping LLC Snow Management Team has been aware of the potential harmful effects of these chemicals. After attending the Certification Program offered by the NH Department of Environmental Services and the University of NH we discovered we have been on the right track in snow plowing and the storage of road salt. Durgin & Durgin Landscaping LLC has invested substantial financial resources in the effort to be environmentally responsible.
